Mind Melting Time With Mr. Kolva

We just got back from a long trip to the East Coast! We visited the former home of the very first Glendinning Wheaton Terrier "Duffy" on Nantucket. While on the island we took in some sun at the beach, and of course enjoyed the tasty waves. Generally we prefer to eat chicken, rabbit, and steak with our coffee, but since we were in Rome we chowed down on some lobster and blue fish. While on our trip we missed our Biggby Coffee, but we were able to find an ok substitute on Cape Cod - Marylou's Coffee, "The Best Coffee in Town!" The coffee wasn't bad, but the girls there were great! Check it out:

We also got to hang out with Mr. Kolva and his family's dog Bazooka! Check out a picture:

Matt took us to Worcester, where we got our minds melted by none other then Bobby Weir and the rest of the remaining Grateful Dead members!! check it out!!

St. Patrick's Day!

Here is a picture of me (Josey) getting ready for St. Patrick's day, which is our favorite holiday!! Normally I drink Irish Cream Latte's at the store, but not today! Here is some info on why this day means so much to Aggie and I:

The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is a medium size terrier with a soft, slightly wavy coat that's the color of wheat. The breed originated over 200 years ago in Southern Ireland as an all purpose working and farm dog. The hardy terriers were used to guard home and family, to herd sheep and cattle, to kill rodents and other vermin, and to hunt small game.

In addition to it's Irish roots, the Wheaten has a unique connection to St. Patrick's Day. On in March 17, 1937, a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier made it's first appearance in the show ring at The Irish Kennel Club Championship Show. Another milestone in the history of the Soft Coated Wheaten occurred on St. Patrick's Day in 1962, with the founding of the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of America.

Enlightened Spartan Latte Time!

It is Tournamant time again for the MSU SPARTAN Basketball team! Aggie and I can't get enough of that handsome Coach Izzo; he is such a wonderful man and always gets te boys ready to play. Lets hope MSU can make it to the final four at Ford Field.

MSU gameday ='s Bloomfield Hills Biggby Enlightened Spartan Latte (white chocolate, green mint, whipped cream and green sprikles) for us! We watch all of the games (football and basketball) there (the health department makes us watch outside on the patio - what a bunch of jerks), and always cheer on the spartans while lapping up an ES latte.

The ES latte was named after one of the greatest Spartans of all time! Here is the story:

From http://www.enlightenedspartan.com

Gamedays at Biggby Coffee: The Enlightened Spartan Latte

(2008 Dec 29)--OK, step aside all you college sports bloggers. How many of you have had a coffee drink named after your blog?
Didn't think so. Ha!

So, the ES gets this email from Biggby Coffee Store #241 today:

"ES, you are MAN! I have been checking out your podcast and website for years now, and am thankful for all your great info and commentary. i used to work in a chicago law office so i was pretty bored most of the time, but thankfully i had your podcasts to help the week go by. now i own a biggby coffee shop in bloomfield hills, which is a whole lot more fun. this fall i created a latte in honor of the spartans, which i served to customers on the day of each game. i had to name it, so what better name then the 'Enlightened Spartan Latte!' keep up the great work!"
OK, the question the comes to mind is... is that an Irish Coffee???? Seriously, thanks for the props. If there are any bars or breweries out there that are similarly interested for making beer named after the ES website, that would rock... "ESIPA" would be a great pale ale; or "Enlightened Spartan Porter" wouldn't be so bad either...

The ES will get into a bit of his "disclaimer" below, but bottom line, we appreciate the SPARTAN SPIRIT. Let's do one better, and take any profits from the sale of said coffee and send it to the Spartan athletics scholarship fund. Maybe we can make Bloomfield Hills Biggby Coffee (1952 S. Telegraph Rd, phone: 248-253-6100) the Spartan coffee capital of the world! In turn, the ES might be able to put an add for the store on the ES website....

However, there is something that needs to be dealt with first. Namely, a few years ago, the ES emailed the President of Beaners (Mike McFall) about receiving poor service and product out of a new driveup facility in Lansing - he responded on March 22, 2006. Very nice, he apologized and said he'd reimburse me and send some discounts to make up the error. Problem: The ES never received anything. Thusly, to make a point, the ES spends his money at Starbucks or Speedway instead. ... But, I still encourage other Spartan faithful to try the "ES Latte" on January 1 at the Biggby in Bloomfield Hills

Jim from store 4 comes to visit!!!

JIM the world famous Biggby customer came to visit us at the store today!! We first met Jim, shortly after we were adopted by Rose and Joe, at Biggby store #4 in East Lansing. Jim is one of the nicest guys around, and has a very discriminating taste when it comes to coffee. He is a two or three times a day Biggby customer, but his trip to Joe and Rose's store was only his second to a Biggby store outside of East Lansing, so it was a very special honor to have him visit. Joe and Rose met Jim while working for the Marvelous Mohammed and Fabulous Fathy in East Lansing. They saw him so often that they quickly became friends - they often mention how he brightened up their day every time they saw him. In fact, Jim took a 45 minute detour just to meet up with Joe and Rose at the store today!

There is only ONE drink that Jim ever gets at Biggby - Joe named it the "JIM SPECIAL!" What is in this drink you ask? We are not telling!! But we bet that if you come on into the store and order one, Joe and Rose will fill you in on what you have been missing!

It was a pleasure JIM!

Sunrise at Biggby

Here at Biggby we are incredibly excited that spring is right around the corner! Even though the groundhog saw his shadow and we had a stern talking (ok, barking) to with him about that, we all know its coming. This morning we were fortunate enough to greet the sun at our favorite place and feel spring on its way! We have Karl to thank for capturing this image for us - it was too wonderful to describe (even though we would have tried for you!) To paraphrase Nina Simone, "Its a new dawn, its a new day...and we're feeling good." We hope you are too! Stop by and see us soon!

Duane sets Josey up on a hot Valentines date

I wasn't feeling to good Friday night because Aggie had a Valentines day date set up with the Golden Retriever that lives next door, Truman, and I had diddly squat. I was so depressed! All i could think of is why big studly dogs were not into me - I mean I am super cute, I give lots of wet kisses, and quite frankly I am nothing but loving. Luckily for me when I got to the store I ran into Duane, who is opening a Biggby Coffee shop in Livonia at the Wonderland Shopping plaza. Good old Duane has lived in the area for a lot longer then I have, so he knows many more dogs then I do. When I explained to him how I was feeling he immediately set me up with a Valentines date with one of his neighbors dogs Boowzer!! He even had a picture of him for me! The date was ok- we went to the park and sniffed all the trees, he chased me all over the place, then we barked at some kids on their bikes, and finally ate some grass and pine needles together. Boowzer wants to go out with me again - I think he is a good dog, but I am not too interested in pursuing him any furter. At least I know that I can still attract the studs.

Learn how to talk with Dougie

On our most recent trip to the store we were greeted by an energetic cheery young Barista who had a very distinctive way of speaking. Being that we are Irish doggies we picked up on his noble Scottish accent immediately! Dougie was his name, and coaching soccer (he is the Lahser high school boys soccer coach) and making latte's was his game. He was an absolute blast to spend time with!! He told us stories of kilts, meat pies, whiskey, the irish highlands, and of course football (or soccer if you prefer)! For those of you that would like to make Dougie feel more at home study the video below, and practice, practice, practice!

Cheers!

New Hire

BIGGBY Coffee in Bloomfield Hills is proud to announce the hiring of our newest barista Emmi! She comes highly recommended from our friends Leanne and Lauren and we are excited to have someone more our size at the store. Our only concern is her extreme cuteness! It may deter attention from our furry faces...
We thought at first she was a new toy but when she let out a giggle as we licked her toes, we realized she was not a treat! We have apologized and shared with her our chew toys (she'll be teething soon!) and now have become great friends. She is learning to eat real food, and she kindly shares with us when food doesn't quite make it in her mouth! Squash is yummy!
She makes a mean latte, and her cappucinos are so dry they balance on her little pinky! Stop in a say "Hi!" to the cutest bartista EVER!!! Except for Joe of course...

Professional looking uniforms

On my latest trip to Biggby I was greeted by a delightfully energetic, charming, young, handsome barista. This charismatic and sophisticated young fellow was a fantastic conversationalist, and also a magician with the milk wand! The latte that he made me was one that I will never ever forget. It was the most delicious thing that I have ever laid my long pink tongue on! I was so impressed by this refined gentleman that I just had to get closer to him (hopefully he would rub my belly and let me lick his face!). I darted behind the counter to get near him, but was sadly horrified by what I saw! He was not actually the sharp professional that I had thought he was, he was a rebel! A rogue barista disguised by his intellect and barista skills!! Yes, my human friends this barista was not dressed in the proper Biggby uniform. He was not wearing the standard issue black socks, but instead bright colorful tie-dyed socks, which are extremely inappropriate!

My heart is broken,

Aggie

Winter Romp

After we had our morning Cup of Joe and read the Oakland Press at Biggby we often enjoy a good romp in the snow. Generally we just run around the backyard, and sometimes wrestle, but today we had a lot of energy since we decided to upgrade our drinks to the "super" size! We went at each other like F1 fighter planes! Check out the picture of me, Aggie, darting towards the helpless Josey! Josey is such a wuss.

Jonathon Performs for Josey!

I was at the store last night for my evening cup of tea when I ran into Jonathon, the multi-talented barista. He said that he had heard so many great things about me, and that I was the cutest dog he has ever seen! He decided to express his admiration for me with a special treat! Luckily I was able to tape his performance, enjoy!

Woof!

Josey talks to LeAnne!

LeAnne (the sweetest barista in the world) and I had a nice discussion at Biggby Coffee in Bloomfield Hills, MI. I have always been fond of her, but when I heard about her favorite chew toy my fondness became an obsession!

Woof Woof,

Josey

Josey & Aggie Getting Dressed for Work

Wow, today was a difficult morning! We had to wake up extra early because we were opening the store, which meant we had to get there at 5am! Usually we sleep in until about 8 or 8:30. Here is a picture of Josey getting ready for work in her Biggby (Bigg-B) uniform at 4:30. Luckily for us Rosie made us a Carmel Marvel when we got to the store.

Us trying to escape for a cup of Biggby Best!

It was after 11 am and Joe & Rose had still not given us our morning bowl of Biggby Best coffee! We decided that we couldn't wait any longer so we tried to escape and head over to the store, next to Carl's Golfland in Bloomfield Hills, MI. When Rose opened the backdoor to take out the trash we took the opportunity to run for it!! Unfortunately our plans abrubtly changed when we got to the edge of the yard and were reminded of the electric shock that would fall upon us if we passed the white flags. Can someone please help us get to Biggby so we can get our caffeine fix???

Kisses always,

Josey & Aggie
